Daisy Hill Boston Terriers:
Health Guarantee and Sales Contract

Please read before you purchase one of our puppies. We want you to feel comfortable with the health of your new family member.  Boston Terriers, like all breeds, have specific, hereditary concerns that you should be aware of and understand fully before you commit to the breed. Here, we detail the most common health concerns related to the Boston Terrier breed, followed by a sample of our health guarantee and sales contract.

Boston Terrier Health Risks

1. Juvenile Hereditary Cataracts (JHC). This is a hereditary condition which can cause early blindness in Boston Terriers. There is a genetic test available for this trait. All of our puppy parents have been screened for JHC and are negative.

2. Heart Murmur. Boston Terriers are predisposed to heart concerns. All of our puppy parents are screened annually for heart murmur, and your puppy will be screened by our vet for heart murmur at his/her first exam. There is no genetic test available at this time to rule out future heart conditions.

3. Patellar Luxation. Faulty structure of the ligaments and and related structures of the kneecap, which can cause gait abnormality and pain. All of our puppy parents are screened annually by our vet for patellar luxation and are negative. Your puppy will be screened for patellar luxation at the time of his/her first health exam. There is no genetic test currently available to rule out the potential for patellar luxation.

4. Brachycephalic Syndrome. A host of potential concerns related to all short-faced dogs. Please research and read more about special health concerns related to brachycephalic dogs before you purchase any puppy from a short-faced breed.

5. Cherry-Eye (prolapse of the third eyelid gland).  Cherry-eye The hereditary origins of cherry-eye are not well-understood at this time. Cherry-eye is very common in Boston Terriers and many other brachycephalic breeds. We are not able to guarantee that your Boston Terrier will not develop cherry-eye. When a dog has cherry-eye, the affected eye appears to have pink tissue bulging out from his/her lower eyelid, where the tear duct is. There are several treatments available for cherry-eye, and it should not affect your dog's vision, unless it remains untreated. There is no genetic testing available for cherry-eye at this time.

Please note that all breeds with prominent eyes are more prone to eye injuries.
